An infection control program (ICP) is mandatory for NABH accreditation (HIC chapter). Core elements include: hand hygiene program (WHO 5-moments, alcohol-based hand rub at point of care, monthly compliance audits with ≥90% target); standard and transmission-based precautions; environmental cleaning schedule; sterilization and disinfection of medical equipment; biomedical waste management per BMW Rules; occupational health program (Hepatitis B vaccination, post-exposure prophylaxis, tuberculosis screening); and healthcare-associated infection surveillance (bloodstream infections, CAUTI, SSI, dialysis access infections in HD units). For dialysis centers, the CDC recommends additional measures: serological screening of all patients (HBsAg, anti-HCV, HIV), vaccination protocols, machine disinfection between sessions, and water treatment monitoring (AAMI/ISO 23500).
