Classification: Upper normal (men)
Uric acid 6.5 is at the upper limit for men — above the gout target (<6.0) if you have had attacks.
Uric acid is the breakdown product of purines. Kidneys excrete it; elevated levels cause gout and kidney stones, and are common in CKD.
Blood test. Levels fluctuate with diet (meat, alcohol, seafood) — fasting value is most reliable.
Reference: Normal ranges per major laboratories; gout target per ACR guidelines • Normal range: 3.5-7.0 (men), 2.5-6.0 (women) mg/dL
